The Fire Dept. has asked the Community Association to persue purchasing the Medium Rescue Truck from Beaufort EMS to replace the 1976 Seagrave Equipment Truck they have now. The Community Association agreed to persue this with the stipulation that the truck would be used for Medium Rescue Services and fireman would be trained for those positions to operate the truck as Medium Rescue within the next two years. Until then it would be used as just an Equipment Truck. It will now have to be agreed upon by the Fire / EMS Commision and the County Commissioners for the purchase of the truck.
The Carteret County Board of Commisioners in cooperation with the NC Dept. of Insurance - Office of State Fire Marshall have instituted a six mile fire district for the Broad and Gales Creek Fire and EMS Departments as of their April 2009 meeting. The move from a five mile district to a six mile district has brought almost all of the Red Barn Road area into our Fire and EMS district and will in turn save the homeowners a substantial amount of money on the fire portion of their Homeowners Insurance Policy cost. Most of the area falls in to the ISO Rating of 7 and the rest falls into a rating of 9S from a rating before of 10. For the Fire Suppression Rating Schedule click here. There was a special meeting held on April 27, 2009 by the Community Association and the Building Committee of the Fire Department about the Proposed New Fire Department. The Community Association voted 4-3 in favor of building a new fire station on the cleared lots on Hwy 24 next to the current Fire Department and EMS Building for a cost of $1.2 Million Dollars total for a turnkey job. Community Association Director / Asst.Fire Chief Danny Harden will persue the planning of the building in June. The plans will be taken to the Community Association, Fire and EMS Commission and then the Carteret County Commissioners at the appropriate times before actually starting the building. Also at the meeting, the Community Association received the final permits and bid documents to proceed with bidding out the Water Main Crossing Under Hwy 24 for a Fire Hydrant at or near the Fire and EMS Building.
