Carteret County is considered a "High Hazard" County in accordance with North Carolina General Statute 113-60.21. Special provisions and restrictions may apply. If your burn is for land-clearing purposes AND it will emcompass more than five (5) acres you will require a special permit not available online. For further information, see our High Hazard County Special Burning Permit Page.

Many counties and incorporated municipalities have additional burning ordinances. Some incorporated municipalities may disallow open burning completely or issue their own permits. Contact your local authorites if you are unsure of the laws and regulations in your area.
